Okay, I saw the movie last night and I have to say that it was way worth the wait. The graphics were amazing and the three leads are doing very good with their acting. But that's beside the point. This post will highlight everything I found wrong with this film in comparison to the book. I know they couldn't get everything in the book in the movie, so I'm only pointing out scenes that were put in but changed, stuff that was not put in, but should have been for clarity and stuff that was added that wasn't in the books at all. Trust me, after I see this movie again, this list will grow. Enjoy

  1. The movie doesn’t open with Harry listening underneath the window sill at home.
  2. The park Harry was supposed to walk to was in the middle of nowhere and it looked like a hay field to me. Really bad location choice I think.
  3. The sky went black way before Dudley’s friends left. In the book, only Dudley noticed the change.
  4. Harry brandished his wand in front of Dudley’s friends. That sure didn’t happen.
  5. Instead of Petunia receiving an owl from Dumbledore, she received nothing. How the conversation in the 6th book between Dumbledore and the Dursley’s is gonna happen is beyond me.
  6. Harry didn’t receive a letter from Dumbledore telling him to stay put like in the book. In the book Harry was contemplating leaving because he figured there was no reason to stay because he’d lose his wand anyway and he was already expelled from Hogwarts. What’s the point?
  7. The Dursley’s left their home because Dudley was out of it and not because Tonks sent a fake invitation to a Lawn Award ceremony like in the book.
  8. Moody didn’t make Harry invisible before they flew to Grimmauld Place
  9. Moody didn’t give Harry a password to get inside GP. Instead he tapped his cane 3 times on the cement.
  10. Sirius’ mother’s portrait never screamed once during the movie. How hard would it have been to animate a portrait screaming on the wall? Trust me that would have been the easiest animated part of the entire movie.
  11. Ron and Hermione didn’t receive their Prefect letters.
  12. They never cleaned Grimmauld Place. It would have been nice to see Harry let loose a bit after his trial.
  13. Sirius did come along with them to the train station in the book, but he revealed himself to Harry in a closed off room in the movie. That never happened in the book. My thoughts were if they wanted Sirius to speak to Harry before he went to school, they should have done that in GP.
  14. Draco never recognized Sirius in his dog form.
  15. They were supposed to meet Luna on the train and not in the carriages at school.
  16. There was absolutely NO quidditch.
  17. Fred and George’s fireworks were supposed to be a distraction so that Harry could speak to Sirius in Umbridge’s fireplace. Harry, along with Ron and Hermione practically waltzed into her office without others watching out for them and got caught way to fast.
  18. Sirius never gave Harry the mirror so that he could talk to him whenever he liked. That’s because Harry never went back to Grimmauld Place.
  19. Instead of Cho’s friend telling on the DA, Cho did it because Umbridge gave her veritaserum. How hard would it have been to have a girl tag along behind Cho through the entire movie, maybe see them converse every once in a while, and then have her tell on them? Not hard at all I think.
  20. What really bugged me was that Harry went in for the kiss with Cho and not the other way around? Harry was supposed to insecure and inexperienced in the book. In the movie he was all over her. Urghh
  21. There was no spinning room inside the Department of Mysteries. Harry’s group simply found the Prophecy room after getting off the elevator.
  22. Harry didn’t go to Mr. Weasley’s office before they were informed about the new time of his hearing. Instead Shacklebolt tells Mr. Weasley in the elevator even though Shacklebolt wasn’t suppose to be in the elevator but upstairs reading the Quibbler about Sirius Black being a pop star.
  23. Bill and Charlie weren’t in the movie at all. Said considering Bill plays a nice role in the 6th book and his accident opens the 7th.
  24. In the Department of Mysterious, Ron didn’t get attacked by brains and Neville didn’t get hurt at all. They did however bruise Luna up a bit which was sad.
  25. There was no trip to St. Mungo’s to visit Mr. Weasley after he was attacked my Nagini.
  26. No St. Mungo’s means no Lockhart and no Neville’s parents.
  27. Harry had his vision about Sirius being cursed by Lord Voldemort during the day and while Fred and George were leaving the school after their huge exit. That was really bad timing.
  28. Sirius, poor lad, never mention his younger brother Regulus. I was wondering if this was a clue about whether it was he that took the locket from the cave in book 6. If JKR wanted him to be suspected, wouldn’t she have told them to add this little bit of information about Regulus being a death eater in the film so that when the 6th movie came around she could throw us off like in the books?
  29. Lucius and the others were never shown being placed in Azkaban. Maybe I missed something, but isn’t this the only reason Draco was made to kill Dumbledore in the next book. Wasn’t he angry that his father went to Azkaban and he wanted to protect his mother or something along those lines?
  30. There was a new and rather stupid decree that said something like “no students are allowed to be within 3 inches of each other.” It was funny, but it wasn’t in the book.
  31. Neville told Harry about his parents willingly, which is odd considering that right after he told him he said that he didn’t want anyone to know. Harry didn’t ask about it, though he did already know because Sirius told him in the train station. (Wasn’t suppose to, Dumbledore was, but he did.)
  32. In the book, during the DA meetings, Neville was described as making a lot of progress with his spells after he found out that Bellatrix escaped from Azkaban. Why is it then that Neville was only seen mastering one spell?
  33. When did Hogwarts have a choir class?
  34. Angelina Johnson, the newly appointed captain of the Gryffindor quidditch team, wasn’t in the movie.
  35. Dumbledore never appointed a centaur to take Trelawney’s place after she was fired. They couldn’t afford to place 1 centaur in the school yet they manage to animate a whole heard during the scene with Umbridge in the forest.
  36. Umbridge never inspected Hagrid’s class. And he was never threatened about losing his job. Except for a small mention on his part. For that reason, Hermione never helped him with his lesson plans and because he was never fired Hagrid never ran off into the night after being attacked my Umbridge and her gang. Also, McGonagall was never moved to St. Mungo’s for being stunned by multiple wizards.  If you don’t remember this part, it was suppose to happen while Harry and his classmates were taking their astronomy O.W.Ls in the astronomy tower. This was also the reason why Harry turned to Snape to check on Sirius after his vision. No one else from the order was at the school since Dumbledore left when Umbridge tried to have him sent to Azkaban.
  37. Where did the huge swinging pendulum in the Great Hall come from? It was swinging behind Umbridge while the students were doing OWLs.
  38. In the book, Umbridge never actually saw the Room of Requirement. Draco and the rest of the Inquisitorial Squad caught Harry after they left the room after their meeting. In the movie however, Umbridge blew down the wall blocking the entrance into the RoR.  That was the dumbest move the director could have made and it must have slipped pass JKR for her to let them do that. Honestly, if it was that easy to get into the RoR, why was Harry having such a hard time getting into the room in the 6th book? Sure you can say that Cho Chang told them what it was for, but if I remember correctly, in the movie, the wall never transformed into a door so in all honestly, they shouldn’t have gotten in, or at least found anyone behind the wall. They should have stepped into another room of some sort like the broom closet Draco and the others fell into when they tried to follow DA members into the room. This was the part where the door was slowly getting smaller as they ran towards it.
  39. Luna never seemed to care for pudding in the book but in the film she was obsessed with it. I think they should have had her obsess over one of her made up creatures.
  40. Also, since no one (Hermione) found out that Rita Skeeter was a animagi in the 4th movie, they took her completely out of the movie so she wasn’t available to write Harry’s article in the Quibbler about what happened at the graveyard the year before.
  41. Just my opinion only, but Luna made more sense in the film than she did in the book. Weird huh?
  42. In the Department of Mysterious they were not shown breaking the time turners. Does this mean that when Harry asks if he can turn back time to get Sirius back, no one can use the story that all the time turners were destroyed? That goes for Dumbledore as well in the 6th book.
  43. Also, for all you HP fans out there, I am still bugged by the fact that Harry never received his permission slip to go into Hogsmeade in the third movie, yet in the 5th movie he waltzes through Hogsmeade like he’s suppose to be there. Sirius’ is dead now. Too bad Mr. Potter!
  44. Ginny’s boyfriend Micheal Corner didn’t seem to be noticed by Ron and Hermione never commented on it. I’m not even sure Ginny had a boyfriend in the film. She was always by herself. Also, Ron and Hermione’s fight about Hermione kissing Krum never happened because they never touched the topic of kissing except after Harry kissed Cho. To tell the truth, I don’t know how they are gonna pull off the Ron/Hermione thing in the films if they continue to ignore their interactions/jealousy.
  45. Kreacher was never found missing from Grimmauld Place so Sirius had no reason to not be present to speak to Harry even if Harry had been able to get into the fire in Umbridges office. That being said, Sirius had no reason to think that Kreacher told anyone about Harry’s dreams and Sirius’ wouldn’t have went to the Ministry to save Harry.
  46. Maybe I over looked this part in the past 2 films, but I don’t think they ever mentioned what Snape’s job for the order was in the fifth movie. He’s suppose to be a spy for Dumbledore, but not having told the audience this fact in the 5th movie, how are they gonna pull of Severus chatting with Bellatrix and Narcissa without having it seem like he has turned against the Order?
