Title: Once a Dream
Author: Savvy
Fandom: Pre- Harry Potter
Characters: James/ Sirius
Summary: James journey to find out who he is and what he wants.
Notes: Originally this was a narrative for a rp I’m in, but it turned out so well, I might as well turn it into a short chapter fic. I hope you like.

James settled down onto his four- poster and fell back on his back. He was exhausted after having packed, ridden the train to school and sitting through sorting and dinner, his body felt on the verge of breaking down. He took little notice as his friends lumbered into the bedroom. Kicking off his shoes and pulling off his robes and clothes, he pulled the sheets down and climbed beneath. He called unenthusiastic goodnights to the other marauders before flicking his wand at the hangings around his bed to close them. As soon as his head hit the pillow he fell asleep.

He was flying at top speed on his Nimbus, the wind blowing through his hair and whistling his ears. He could feel burst of adrenaline coursing through his veins like unyielding rapids breaking through a concrete dam. His eyes flicked this way and that looking for the glimmer of gold. The winged snitch was no where in sight, yet he continued to look; his eyes straining against the forceful winds. As the pressure within him built to an alarming extent his head pounded, making him dizzy. His sweaty hands slipped and slid as they gripped the broom handle, but he tightened then; refusing to take his hands off the broom to wipe them incase he saw the snitch and had to dart after it.

“Watch out,” Sirius yelled behind him. He didn’t hesitate a second and his instincts told him to duck, which he did, low over his broom as a bludger soared overhead, right where his head would have been second before. Erect now, he looked over his shoulder after his friend.

“Thanks!” he yelled. Sirius simply waved nonchalantly over his shoulder and darted after the offending bludger to hit it toward the other team. James’ heart jumped in his chest as he watched Sirius maneuver around the other team’s players, his movements precise and skilled. A large lump in James’ throat traveled downward as he continued to watch. Sirius, now stationary beside him, moved as if in slow motion. His tongue caressed his bottom lip in one fluid motion to moisten them. A stream of sweat rolled down his face from his forehead, down his neck and into his shirt.

By now the lump that had started in his throat now ached in the pit of his stomach. Adrenaline was no longer the driving force of his heart. It was beating for a totally new reason now.

Lust.

Lust, if it could be a material, tangible thing, stirred his organs, making him whimper deep in his throat. He felt queasy to his stomach. A lion-est like growl screamed in his jeans and he became unusually aware of his position on the broom handle beneath him, as a large bulge rose, causing him to shift ever so slightly on the wooden handle. He knew what this was, but he didn’t want to believe it, couldn’t understand exactly why this was happening now, or at all.

By now finding the snitch seemed unimportant. He had more “pressing” issues to deal with.

 “James, watch out!”
Then everything went black and he woke up.

“James, wake up.”

Someone was shaking him, but there was no need. He was already wide awake. His eyes flicked open and gazed up into those of his friend; the very one who had haunted his dreams.

“What?” he asked sitting up and looking at Sirius. The other boy stepped back, a mixture of amusement and worry written on his handsome face.

“You were…were moaning,” he said finally, crossing his arms over his chest grinning.

“And saying Sirius’ name.”

James eyes shot toward the source of the other voice and saw to his embarrassment Remus and Peter sitting up in bed smiling at him, then grinning knowingly at each other.

Sirius remained silent after this announcement and didn’t look at him. A tiny smile now quirked the side of his lips though as he waited for James to respond.

“I was not,” James hissed, pulling the covers higher around his waist to hide his lie and to hide the fact that he was shivering like mad. That same pressure that had bothered him in his dream was present now and was very much real. It hadn’t been a dream. He really was aroused.

“Well, were going down stairs,” Remus said after a few uncomfortable seconds, breaking the permeating silence that had enveloped the room. He and Peter dressed quickly and left.

It was only he and Sirius, alone, in the ever present silence.

Body still quaking underneath his skin, he raised his downcast eyes from the floor where they had been focused since Remus’ blunt announcement. He looked at Sirius.

“I’m sorry,” he said finally, seeing no reason to lie about what was clearly obvious. He hoped Sirius would understand.

“It’s fine.” Sirius turned and looked at him. “What were you dreaming about?”

Innocent question, right? He just hoped he could find an innocent answer.

“Quidditch,” he said smiling, a lie formulating in his head instantly. “I was yelling at you to do your job,” he lied. Though he was sure he could have done better, he couldn’t think of anything else at the moment. Luckily Sirius fell for it.

“Well, that’s normal enough,” Sirius said sitting on the side of the bed beside him. “Remus thought you were having a wet dream about me,” he laughed.

James managed to laugh it off and keep a straight face though his heart was now throbbing in his chest. “Eww, why would he think that?” he asked.

“You know Remus…”

They left it at that.

“Well, get up. We’re getting out classes today, remember?”

“Yeah. “I’ll be down in a minute.”

He averted his eyes to his hands as Sirius dressed and left. When the door closed behind him James breathed for what seemed like the first time in hours. He fell onto his back and stared at the cloth canopy above. He tried hard to clear his mind; convince himself that his dream was just that, a dream, that didn’t have to become reality. But it already was. Just having Sirius sit on his bed just now had been enough to stir something inside of him. It had awakened a part of himself he hadn’t known existed. A soft whimper escaped his lips as he thought back to how Sirius had looked at him when he awakened. There faces had been inches apart…too close for comfort really.

Sirius didn’t miss anything. Nothing! He was sure that Sirius knew he had been lying about the dream, but for some reason he hadn’t confronted him. Why? He couldn’t very well ask him. He’d just let things unravel as they may.

What a good way to start the semester! He thought as he climbed out of the bed and dressed, thanking heaven for the bulky school robes that were mandatory to wear. It hid his “little problem” very well. He didn’t have time to deal with it properly and he couldn’t risk one of the marauders walking in and catching him relieving himself after what they had witnessed in his sleep. He wouldn’t be able to live it down.

Grabbing his bags, he left the room at a brisk walk.
